Who I am !

Thank you for visiting the traditional craft DIY kit “In the pouch” page.
For a long time, I have liked designs and things such as folk costumes and traditional crafts, where you can feel the regional characteristics and the individuality of handicrafts.

I'm very clumsy and I can't be a craftsman or a writer,
but I like the act of “manufacturing” itself, and I especially liked the sense of accomplishment of creating and the time to concentrate on creation in workshops where even amateurs and clumsy can participate.
This summer, we launched a kit called “In the Pouch” where you can experience making traditional crafts at home.

About traditional crafts DIY kits

”In the pouch” touches on the local life and culture,
This is a project to sell DIY kits that allow you to experience the fun of making things.
The materials used in the kit are made using traditional methods in the region,
It started as an initiative to revitalize local industry.
Thankfully, it's a small project that I started on my own.
With the cooperation of local people and craftsmen, we were able to shape it.
We are now selling two types of kits, Ise Katagami from Mie Prefecture and Safflower Dyeing from Yamagata Prefecture.

The reason for starting this project

It was the safflower dyeing I experienced in Yamagata Prefecture in the summer of 2021.
Do you know safflower dyeing?
With safflower dyeing, using the red pigment extracted from the flower called safflower.

It is a method of dyeing cloth and materials, and the red color dyed with safflower is
It is a color that has been cherished since ancient times.
Until then, I didn't even know how the colors around me were born.
I didn't even think about it.
The safflower farmer spoke slowly and carefully.
The attractiveness of the natural red color made from safflower is that it has been cherished as a sacred color in Japan, and that demand is decreasing with the passage of time. I was surprised to find that there are many worlds that I do not know.
I would like more people to know
I came to think that the possibilities of crafts and the region would expand,
About a year later, we started selling kits.

When you visit the region, you can see the history and culture that the region has nurtured,
We often learn from the wisdom of our predecessors.
It is important to let people know about crafts,
Touching various regions and cultures through crafts,
I think it is important to cultivate diverse perspectives.
Ever since I learned about the birth of colors through my safflower dyeing experience,
I began to imagine how the colors I see on the streets were created.
It may be an exaggeration, but I feel that the world I see has expanded a little.
That's where In the Pouch comes from, which doesn't look like traditional crafts.
I will talk about naming and design in another blog.

Thank you for reading this far.
In the pouch's traditional craft DIY kits are for everyone to enjoy.
We repeated trial production many times and completed meeting with craftsman.
It's easy and convenient because it has everything you need,
You can also experience the depth of craftsmanship and craftsmanship.
While experiencing the fun and difficulty of manufacturing through the kit
I would be happy if you could meet the charm of crafts and regions beyond that.
